Rufford Mill Wedding Photography | Helen & Ross
I first met with Helen & Ross a couple of years back to discuss their Rufford Mill Wedding Photography. I’d never shot a wedding here before and after chatting to them about their day I was excited to capture their big day here.
I’ve been to Rufford many times for family shoots and dog walks etc. I also photographed the Google virtual tour for the Abbey back in 2015, but I’d never been here for a wedding.
Their day was filled with lovely details, a well styled room and plenty of love and emotion to capture. One of my favourite things about their wedding was a VIP guest, Lucas (The family Border Collie!)
The weather didn’t play ball through most of the day with plenty of rain (typical British weather!) So I used this as an opportunity to end their day on a high with an outdoor bride and groom portrait in the rain. Hats off to the brave couple for battling the elements and making this happen!
Information & advice from the newly-weds
How long have you been together/Any stories about how you met?:
We’ve been together 10 years to the day of the wedding. It all started with a random add on Facebook from Ross, which turned into something really special really quickly, but not before the maid of honour had to give her approval.
Any stories or tales from the proposal?
Ross and I had been living together for 2 years when my parents invited us to go to Florida with them. He had decided this was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. Packed the suitcase and secured the ring inside the case, well hidden. We arrived in America and customs decided to do a random search of both mine and Ross’ case. Luckily, they didn’t find it but he was so nervous the whole way through, I was none the wiser till after he actually proposed the next day in front of the castle at Disney.
Reasons for choosing your venue?
The venue holds very close childhood memories for both Ross and I with picnic’s and days out which we have carried with us. Now we take our special dog Lucas for walks there and it was just the perfect spot.
Colour scheme/theme/style:
I saw a blue and silver wedding car drive past one day, and as soon as I saw it I knew it had to be. We hunted the car down and booked it as soon as we could. The navy and grey colour scheme was an extension of the car.
Any special thoughts/memories from the day?
From getting out the car and being so nervous and emotional, hiding behind the curtain with my dad whispering “Just keep thinking of budgies and duck poo” so that I’d stop crying with emotion. But my favourite part of the day was when the curtains parted and every nervous part of me melted away when I saw Ross and Lucas at the end of the aisle.
Any advice for couples planning a wedding?
Stay calm and don’t fret over the small stuff. Make sure you feel comfortable with each supplier, they are the ones making the dreams happen.
Have some flip flops for the guests to wear when their feet get sore, every pair of ours was snapped up.
