Weddings at Belvoir Castle | Photos, Ideas & Advice
Nestled in the captivating Vale of Belvoir near Grantham, Nottinghamshire, Belvoir Castle is the regal residence of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland. Surrounded by a vast 16,000-acre estate, it offers a truly majestic setting for your wedding.
This grand and historic castle is perfect for couples seeking a magical and memorable celebration. You can hold your civil ceremony and drinks reception in one of two stunning rooms, both suited to elegant gatherings of up to 120 guests.
The bridal suites are a standout feature. Designed to offer both luxury and comfort, they align with the original floor plan of the house while providing a practical space for bridal prep. The Elizabethan Suite, rich in detail and full of atmosphere, makes a stunning backdrop for portraits and morning moments.
For a unique guest experience, you can even arrange private guided tours of the castle. These add an extra layer of character and history to the day.
As much as I admire the grandeur and architecture of the castle, I’m always drawn to the rose garden and the variety of plants and trees in the surrounding grounds. These natural elements bring colour, softness and charm to the photographs.
There are also some truly unique moments you won’t get at other venues. For example, couples can use the Duke’s ceremonial sword for the cake cutting. Then there’s the cannon, yes, an actual cannon. The Duke’s seven French cannons can be fired as part of your celebration, and trust me, it’s the loudest thing you’ll ever hear.
The in-house wedding co-ordinators and Master of Ceremonies ensure that everything runs smoothly. From morning prep to the final toast, your wedding at Belvoir Castle is run like clockwork. It’s the kind of day you’ll look back on for years, with photographs that reflect the scale, beauty and elegance of this unforgettable setting.
Belvoir Castle Wedding Photography – FAQs
What’s the best time of year for a wedding at Belvoir Castle?
Belvoir Castle is stunning in all seasons. Spring brings colour to the rose gardens, summer offers long golden evenings across the estate, and autumn brings depth and atmosphere to the woodland areas. Winter weddings indoors are warm, elegant and full of character. The castle’s interior means your day will be photogenic no matter the weather.
What are the best photo locations at Belvoir Castle?
The castle itself is packed with visual opportunities. The Elizabethan Suite is perfect for elegant portraits, while the rose garden and outer walls create dramatic backdrops. The Duke’s ceremonial sword cake-cut and the cannon blast offer brilliant, one-of-a-kind moments to capture. The bedrooms feature tall windows with beautiful natural light and refined decor, while the grand staircases and opulent rooms add even more options. There is so much variety on offer here, making it a dream venue for creative and memorable wedding photography.
Can you have your ceremony at Belvoir Castle?
Yes, there are two elegant ceremony rooms inside the castle, both licensed for civil ceremonies. They’re full of natural light and historic detail, ideal for classic and dramatic ceremony photos. After the ceremony, guests often enjoy drinks in the castle grounds while we capture portraits with the views across the Vale of Belvoir.
What happens if it rains on the wedding day?
The castle is a solid choice if the weather turns. With grand interiors and multiple usable rooms, we can keep things moving indoors with no compromise. I always come prepared for low light and still look for creative ways to bring the day to life, even in rain. The castle windows, long halls and antique decor all work well for moody, romantic shots.
Do you offer full-day wedding photography at Belvoir Castle?
Yes, I offer full coverage from bridal prep in the suites to evening celebrations and beyond. Belvoir Castle weddings tend to have a lot of moments worth capturing, from the cannon firing to castle tours, so full-day coverage is ideal. I usually finish with a bold evening shot of the castle lit up, or something dramatic in the garden, these make a great last spread in your wedding album.

Matt and Christian were fantastic and made us feel so comfortable for our wedding day! All our guests echoed our sentiments too, saying that Matt and Christian were amazing!
Matt knew exactly what photos to get and managed to direct family members with clarity, but also to blend seamlessly into the background for other shots – the man can do it all! Matt came and grabbed us for some beautiful shots at sunset, and even turned what could’ve been considered somewhat average landscapes, into fantastic photographs with artistic flair – he made it look easy!
Matt was friendly and easy to get along with, super quick with the photos, and super communicative at all times! 10/10 could not recomend more.
