Gemma & Vicky’s Wedding at Mythe Barn
Gemma and Vicky’s wedding at Mythe Barn was a perfect blend of elegance, emotion, and pure joy, everything you’d want from an autumn celebration. The weather played its part too, with golden light and just the right crispness in the air to remind you why autumn weddings are so special. Mythe Barn delivered in every way: beautiful attention to detail, immaculate styling, and those light-filled bridal suites that made the morning prep feel extra relaxed and luxurious.
The whole day was packed with love and laughter, especially when the registrar repeatedly struggled to pronounce Vicky’s double-barrelled Polish surname, much to everyone’s amusement! The colour palette was spot on, with warm autumnal tones woven through the floral styling and bridesmaid dresses, perfectly echoing the season (check the garden shots for full effect). From heartfelt moments during the ceremony to an epic evening party with a killer live band, it was a day full of energy and character. And just when we thought the story was complete, the rain arrived, giving us a final set of dramatic shots to round off their Mythe Barn wedding photography gallery with a bang.
It was a truly wonderful wedding to photograph. Congratulations to Gemma and Vicky!
Information & advice from the newly-weds
Any stories or tales from the proposal?
Some love stories start with grand romantic gestures, and some start with a flying axe—ours was the latter! We met at work, but it wasn’t until a team day out axe throwing that we finally hit it off. Gemma, in an attempt to impress, went all in… and ended up giving herself whiplash. Romantic, right?
Fast forward nearly a year, and I had no idea that our journey was about to take the next big step. Gemma had been secretly planning to propose on the beach during a trip to Alnwick. But as fate would have it, the weather had other ideas—think strong winds and an impromptu sandstorm, not exactly the dreamy setting she had imagined. So, plan B came into action: back at our cozy woodland lodge.
I was completely clueless. No suspicions, no hints, nothing. So when Gemma popped the question, I was in total shock—so much so that I said “yes” without even looking at the ring! It was a moment of pure love, surprise, and absolute happiness, and one we’ll never forget.
Reasons for choosing your venue?
Choosing a wedding venue is a huge decision, but for us, it was surprisingly easy. Mythe Barn was the first venue on our list of five, and from the moment we stepped inside, we just knew. We fell in love instantly—the beautiful oak beams, the light streaming through the large windows, and the way the whole space flowed together. It was exactly what we were looking for.
To be thorough, we still went to see the second venue on our list… but within two minutes, we knew it was a no. That sealed the deal—we cancelled the rest of our viewings and booked Mythe Barn without hesitation.
We wanted a venue where everyone could feel part of the celebration, not one where the bar and dance floor were completely separate. Mythe Barn had the perfect layout to keep the party atmosphere alive all night. The stunning grounds were a huge bonus, and the staff were so warm and welcoming—no pushy sales pitch, just genuine enthusiasm.
Colour/Style:
With an October wedding, we knew we wanted to embrace the beauty of autumn—but with one very clear rule: no pumpkins! Instead, we opted for deep oranges and rich reds that complemented each other perfectly, creating a warm, elegant feel. With two sets of bridesmaids, we were conscious of making sure everything felt cohesive—like one wedding, not two!
When it came to bringing our vision to life, we happily handed the reins over to Make It Special. We’ll be the first to admit that we’re pretty clueless when it comes to décor, and they completely transformed our small ideas into something magical. We can’t thank them enough for dressing the venue and flowers so beautifully.
Of course, we wanted to make it personal, too. Castles have always been a shared love of ours, so Lisa, Gemma’s mum, hand-painted our table numbers to reflect that passion. And we couldn’t forget our furry family! As a cat rescuer for Mansfield Cat Rescue, it was only fitting to include a nod to our beloved pets—our cake topper featured our Rottweiler, Bentley, alongside our cats and our daughter, Amelia.
Then came the two must-haves! I had one simple request: “The only thing I want is a violinist.” So we had the wonderful Roksanna, who played beautifully throughout our ceremony and cocktail hour. Gemma, on the other hand, needed a little convincing when I said, “The only thing I want is a live illustrator.” But in the end, she agreed—and the talented Stacey Greenshield sketched stunning guest portraits, making for unique and personal wedding favours that everyone actually wanted to take home.
Any special thoughts/memories from the day?
Our wedding day was everything we dreamed of—filled with love, laughter, and a whole lot of confetti! From the moment the ceremony started, we couldn’t stop smiling. Even when the registrar mispronounced my name, we just laughed and carried on!
Speaking of laughter, the speeches were unforgettable. Gemma, her dad, and Heather and Ce all delivered incredible speeches, and we have to give special credit to Heather and Ce for managing not to swear—which, trust us, is quite an achievement!
Then came the confetti. So much confetti. We were absolutely covered in it, and we’re pretty sure Gemma even ate some along the way!
As the night went on, we hit the dance floor with Locomove, our amazing rock band. There were multiple renditions of Proud Mary with the bridesmaids, and at one point, we even rocked out to Rage Against the Machine. It was everything we wanted—an incredible party surrounded by our closest family and friends.
Any advice for couples planning a wedding?
If we could give one piece of advice, it would be this: just do you. We planned our wedding pretty much ourselves, which meant we got the exact day we wanted—without outside influences shaping it into something it wasn’t.
Start by deciding what’s most important to you and spend your money there. For us, photography was at the top of the list, so we booked the amazing Matt Selby without hesitation. The rest? We didn’t stress over the little things.
You don’t need endless signage (surely people know whose wedding it is!), flip-flop baskets, or matching logo dressing gowns—unless, of course, you really want them. The truth is, your guests are there for you, not the extras.
Most importantly? Enjoy the day and take it all in! It flies by, so soak up every moment, laugh lots, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
