A Festive Wedding at Blackbrook House | Megan & Jack

Megan & Jack held their wedding at Blackbrook House near Belper in Derbyshire. A beautiful Victorian house beaming with character inside and out. The house was all geared up for Christmas which is always a great time of year for weddings. Decorations & fairy lights, foggy evenings and early sunsets can make for some extra special photographs. A classy couple in an elegant venue, what more could a wedding photographer ask for! Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Reeves!

Information & advice from the newly-weds

How long have you been together/Any stories about how you met?:

We celebrated our 8th anniversary in September, but we’ve known each other for about 9 years.

We lived in the same halls during our first year at the University of Nottingham and had a similar group of friends. When we moved back to Nottingham to start the second year of our courses, we arrived earlier than most of our friends and housemates, so we ended up spending a lot of time together. We started dating pretty quickly from that point onward!

Any stories or tales from the proposal?

We were on a weekend break to Kirkby Lonsdale and Jack suggested that we go for a walk through the village after a nice meal. A few minutes into our walk, we realised all the roads in the village were unlit. It was pitch black and we had no idea where we were going so we had to turn around and go back to the inn. Jack suggested we sit in the garden outside the restaurant instead. Just as he was about to pop the question a very tipsy Australian couple wandered outside and spent ages chattering to us about squirrels before they finally left us in peace! We laugh about it not going to plan now, but I’m sure it was a bit unnerving for Jack at the time!

Reasons for choosing your venue?

Blackbrook House was only the second venue we saw when we started planning our wedding. We actually cancelled all of our other appointments after we had our first meeting with Lavinia.

The house and setting in the Derbyshire countryside is beautiful enough on its own, but the service we received from the entire team at Blackbrook was out of this world. We loved how they took the time to get to know us both, and they somehow brought to life everything we’d imagined for the day – and so much more!

Everything was so intimate and personal to us. I couldn’t have imagined a more relaxed wedding day. Lavinia and the team took care of every little detail throughout the day. We were also blown away by Steve, who designed the most wonderful menu for us, which our guests are still raving about!

Colour scheme/theme/style:

We wanted a very classic wintery wedding with lots of twinkly lights and candles. We chose a colour scheme of varying shades of dusky blue, grey, white and a few elements of rose gold to warm our icy colour palette.

Any special thoughts/memories from the day?

This is a tough question because we loved the entire day. I particularly enjoyed how relaxed and calm the morning was while the bridesmaids and I had our hair and makeup done before the ceremony. It really set the tone for the rest of the day!

We both really enjoyed the speeches from our best man and maid of honour. Also having a bit of time together and with our families during the wedding breakfast before we were on the go again!

Any advice for couples planning a wedding?

Invest the time in picking great suppliers! We really trusted everyone we hired, so we knew we had nothing to worry about on our actual wedding day and we could sit back and enjoy it all coming together.

Also, don’t forget the day is meant to be about the two of you above anything else. We kept reminding ourselves that we wanted the day to be a reflection of us as a couple, and everything we love!
