Matt Selby Photography

Hi, I’m Matt Selby. I specialise in unique, visually powerful and creative wedding photography in Nottingham, Derby and the UK.

There’s a good chance you’ve landed here as you’re engaged and starting to look at local  wedding photographers? If so congratulations (You’ve come to the right place!) Please take a moment to crank up your screen brightness (if viewing on mobile) and learn more about my style of wedding photography below.

Natural storytelling

a creative approach to wedding photography

I like to ensure the photograph is not only well executed (from lighting to composition and emotional tone) but is also unique and hasn’t been taken by numerous other photographers. Great pride is taken in delivering unique photographs so my couples know that nobody else has the same image. For me this is super important and it ensures my work stays fresh and inventive.

So many factors can contribute to a well taken photograph and light is one of them. I pay a lot of attention to light and use it in such a way it’s defined my style as a creative wedding photographer over the last 14 years. Many couples today opt for a winter wedding (where you get very little daylight hours) so having a keen understanding of light is imperative.

If (like me) you’re not a huge fan of having your photograph taken but would still want the best memories & photographs from the day,  then choosing a photographer you’re comfortable with is crucial. I stay clear of anything cheesy or cliché and avoid overly staged photos.

The couples who entrust me to document their wedding day are those who appreciate a natural approach but also crave something truly unique and creative. If you’re drawn to artistic photographs infused with style and flair, then you’re in the right place. Keep reading to learn more!

Belvoir Castle Wedding

capturing the story of your day

So it’s not all about taking the wow shots! Most of the photographs I capture will be the ones you didn’t even know I’d taken. Throughout the day I like to blend into the background and capture the story of your day unfold naturally.

Coverage: I don’t believe in leaving straight after first dance. Some of the best shots can be when guests have had a drink and they’re warming up the dancefloor! But most importantly, I like to capture the full story of your day. Rather than the last shot being on the dancefloor, nothing beats a super cool night shot to end your story on a high (A great way to end your storybook wedding album too)

Two Professional Photographers

Having 2 professional photographers will bring many advantages. As I can only be in one place at one time, many important photographs could be missed with only a single photographer. It also means we can cover more of your day (from both sides in the morning) which helps to tell a much better story of your day.

A dual photographer approach means you’ll ultimately get more photographs and furthermore, we can get those wow shots with certain lighting setups in no time (some of which wouldn’t be possible without the second photographer) so its a win win!
