Bethany and Ariyan curated a dreamy ambiance for their wedding day at Hazel Gap Barn, an exquisite Cripps barn wedding venue. The choice of a barn setting is gaining popularity among couples seeking a unique and picturesque backdrop for their special moments.

How long have you been together/Any stories about how you met?:

We had been together nearly 12 years before our wedding day. Ariyan was studying accounts, business and sports whereas I was dancing around the corridors in leotards as I was studying performing arts. Despite being polar opposites in our interests, we found love in each other and the rest is history!

Any stories or tales from the proposal?

Our engagement lasted 6 years before the big day, and the proposal was pretty special. On our anniversary, we took a trip to London to celebrate and visited Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park. We went on a couple of rides and I noticed that Ariyan was behaving a little strange! He was quiet and was being very particular about what we were doing. We ended up on the ice rink and Ariyan kept stopping which was very frustrating. Turns out he was just trying to find the perfect spot to be able to propose to me whilst on the ice! We kept it a secret from our families and it was great to be able to surprise them on our return home.

Reasons for choosing your venue?

A long engagement gave us a lot of time to look at different venues and really get a feel for what we wanted. Hazel Gap Barn just ticked every box. Myself and Ariyan are very family orientated and love to host dinners and events for our family and friends. We wanted a wedding venue that allowed us to feel close to our guests and where we could all come together as one community. Hazel Gap Barn is absolutely stunning, no matter what the weather, and their food really is second to none. We also loved having the option to use the fire pits where we could roast marshmallows with our guests. The staff were also incredible, and I can’t recommend them highly enough – they really will go above and beyond to ensure your day is the best day ever.

Theme/Style:

With our wedding being postponed from June to October, we made some slight changes to our colour scheme to create more of an autumnal feel throughout the wedding. We used lots of deep reds and burgundy colours with dusky pinks and ivories, and we filled the flowers out with greenery and autumnal foliage. When we set our wedding date on Halloween weekend I just knew that I would want to add elements of Halloween and Bonfire Night into our wedding. We painted pumpkins white and gold for our table numbers, had chocolate apples for our favours and had a sparkler gathering outside by the fire pits!

Any special thoughts/memories from the day?

We have so many! The wedding has been such a long time coming that not only was the whole day just absolutely perfect in every way, but there were a few moments that really hold a special place for us.

For Ariyan, it was seeing me for the first time coming down the aisle. He was more emotional than he thought he would be and was tearing up before I even walked through the door. For me, saying our vows to each other really choked me up. I meant every word and to be able to have our closest family and friends witness our marriage meant the absolute world.

Lastly, with having to live with the struggles and adversities that COVID brought us over the last 18 months, it was so overwhelming and heart-warming to be around those that you love and care so much for. We’ve lost a lot of people in our family, so being able to celebrate with everyone and in particular my 90 year old Grandma was very special.

Any advice for couples planning a wedding?

Keep a spreadsheet! Make lots of lists! My over-organisation really paid off and it was because I was relentless with making sure I documented everything along the way. I love planning and organising, but planning a wedding is definitely a challenge! Make time to plan together and make decisions together. Listen to each other and support one another.

Remember it is YOUR wedding. Lots of people will have opinions on what they think you should be doing and it can feel overwhelming trying to please everyone. So listen to people, consider it, but if it’s not something you and your partner want then don’t feel pressured to oblige.

Finally enjoy everything. The planning, the preparations, the day. Because before you know it, it’s all over and you’ll be wanting to do it all over again!
