2019’s Best. Wedding Photographer Nottingham & Derby
12 month in pictures
2019 – My busiest year as a wedding photographer. It’s been an interesting one! After spending the best part of a decade trying to learn my craft and get busy, 2019 has taught me that there’s only so much one can do! So, to preserve my sanity, prevent creative burnout and to ensure I can give each and every couple 110%, I’m only going to take on a certain number of weddings from 2020 on onwards.
What does it take to be a wedding photographer?
A lot goes on behind the scenes that couples don’t see. (I wish it was as easy as just turning up and photographing a wedding). The truth is running a business isn’t easy. If you’ve ever seen the iceberg illustration, people generally only see the success (the tip of the iceberg) What people don’t see are the early mornings, late nights, sacrifices, risks and failures, hard work and persistence (the bottom of the iceberg). When I get back from what could have been a 15 hour day, my legs are like jelly and my body is exhausted, yet my mind is still very active and I struggle to switch off. It’s physically and mentally demanding, therefore keeping in good shape is something else I’m working towards in 2020.
As a photographer, you need a multitude of skills and qualities. Good customer service skills, patience, professionalism, assertiveness, calmness under pressure, creativity and stamina. As well as talking photographs, you find yourself learning marketing & advertising strategies / SEO practices / web design / print & print design / learning new hardware & software / data management / client records / accounting & insurances / networking / contracts / industry knowledge and obviously cameras, lenses and lighting equipment which is forever changing. These things take a great amount of time to learn and that’s what we pay for when we hire a professional (any professional, not just photography) We’re not just paying for the X number of hours on the wedding day. We’re paying for years of blood sweat and tears to capture our most precious memories.
Overall, 2019 has been a great year. I want to continue learning, growing and shaping my style to capture unique, creative and visually interesting imagery.
Thank you!
Couples – Might sound cliché, but I do want to thank all the couples who put their faith in me to capture their wedding. It’s a huge responsibility and I’ve met so many lovely couples and families over the last 12 months.
Venue’s & Coordinators – I’d like to thank all the venues I’ve worked at over the last 12 months, especially those who actively recommend me to their clients. It’s amazing to work alongside likeminded people who share the same level of enthusiasm. Some of the venues I’ve been to look incredible and I’ve had some of the best cooked food from some very talented chefs.
Wedding suppliers – You meet a lot over the years, some you see once and never again, others you see more regularly. It’s always a pleasure working alongside such talented suppliers. From hair stylists, MUA’s, florists, bands & DJ’s, magicians, videographers, chauffeurs & cake makers.
Second photographers – Special thanks also go out to the second photographers who’ve worked with me this year, especially my main man Christian! I couldn’t do it without you.
Finally, thanks to my family, friends and anyone who’s liked, commented or shared my work.

Matt & christian made us feel at ease and blended in as part of the family. They worked tirelessly with us both from dusk til dawn and have captured some awesome shots of the party atmosphere in the evening. We cannot thank you both enough.
We would highly recommend anyone planning their wedding to consider booking this cheeky pair. You won’t regret it!
Professional, friendly and creative! What more can you want from your wedding photographer.
From start to finish, Matt worked tirelessly to ensure that our memories of our special day were of a top quality. Nothing was too much trouble and he fit in very well with our friends and family. His communication throughout the planning process was second to none and he demonstrated a real love for photography.
